This is a box made with a single piece of wood, completely hand carved and decorated with two interlocking mythological animals, one a chinese dragon and the other a crane bird. This box is exquisite and was created around 1950s or 1960s by chinese or malayan artisans living in Indonesia, most probably in Sumatra or in Borneo. The design is very much in style of some apothecary pieces made in Imperial China around 1880s but with a rustic and naive touch more proper to its modest origins. The mystical beauty of this wooden box with lid make it a talking piece. Lovely, elegant but naive at once. In a very good vintage condition.
