I never cease to marvel at victorian mourning jewellery. I cannot imagine how these were made they are so intricate. Please zoom in on the photos and see how tiny the weave is. Amazing. This is a particularly detailed and fine example. This is a unique piece was constructed (near 1900s) from two very old watch chains, both circa 1860s or earlier and an added black glass fob, c 1900. Beautiful and elegant, an authentic antique reconstruction you will LOVE to wear! The woven hair chain is in two patterns twined together, dark brown color, in superb unworn condition with no loose hairs, held at each end with etched gold caps. Center has a pretty etched slide with two red stones and a pearl, this slides freely on the hair chain.
The etched black intaglio glass fob is like a wax seal and depicts a Greco-Roman soldier head. Back chain, T-bar and the two attached dog clips are from the same antique chain, this appears to be rose gold filled whereas the other gold metal parts on this necklace appear to be gold plated. Both dog clips have springs inside that are in excellent working condition. Very lightweight and comfortable to wear!
Dimensions, Length: 15.25" inches and can be adjusted down to 14.3" inches by clasping into larger ring on chain. Fob measures 0.85" x 1" inches / Weight 17 grams
